People drive faster, oblivious to cyclists and skaters who in turn are oblivious to pedestrians who in turn are oblivious to everything, all resulting in people getting hurt or killed – Every day! Meanwhile at home, spring cleaning has introduced toxic cleaning products and allergy medications well within baby’s reach, and while one child uses a toaster that’s plugged into a wet extension cord, a toddler climbs onto furniture that’s next to an open window.
Countless children receive bikes, skates and scooters but no helmet, because parents think there’s no danger, as the kids are just staying in the driveway - attention parents; it’s a driveway, it’s hard. Children want to be big people and they’ll do what they see us do, including shaving with razors, popping pills, smoking, using lighters, cooking, and inserting things into electrical outlets. Check out www.Toronto.ca and www.babyzone.com for endless kid-proofing tips, and make your home as safe as it is beautiful. There’s no reason for a child to get hurt or die because simple safety precautions were neglected in the home, and excuses will never be a consolation when the unthinkable happens. I know this article is a bit morbid, but it’s easier to read this today than a child’s obituary tomorrow, so let’s get our act together, folks, and let’s keep our kids safe at home. |

Sadly, as the weather gets warmer, emergency rooms and morgues get busier (no, this is not a joke).
