Nomi Rakaposhi

Nomi Rakaposhi is a new Canadian artist in his early-20s who writes and sings his own songs. Nomi's first song " Canada! We Stand for Thee" (written June 2006) is a patriotic song which he has devoted to the Canadian Armed Forces – especially those who are away from home and are fighting for world peace.

Nomi's family immigrated to Canada from Pakistan when he was a young boy. Throughout his life he excelled in art and wanted to become an artist like his father. His father, a struggling artist discouraged Nomi from pursuing the arts. So Nomi's talents then turned from painting to writing poetry while journeying through high school. Nomi went on to complete a Bachelor of Music in 2009 and a Master of Music in 2011. Throughout his university career, Nomi recorded some rough projects in secrecy. When his father heard of Nomi's musical endeavours, he was surprised at his son's talents and actually encouraged Nomi to pursue his passion for writing and singing. A few months later, Nomi's father died in a fatal car accident. Content that his father's last wish was for him to continue his musical journey, Nomi kept going and has now finally released his first song entitled "Canada! We Stand for Thee" on myspace. He has dedicated this song to the people of Canada, especially the Canadian Armed Forces.

Nomi falls under the pop/folk-rock genre which blends both Eastern and Western instruments into unique melodies. Nomi's upcoming songs focus on day-to-day life and issues in our society such as multiculturalism; world peace; environment; poverty and homelessness; ending discrimination; discouraging youth violence, and many more. Nomi's songs will aim to inspire people to make the world a better place to live in. As a new and unique artist, Nomi hopes that his songs will carve a special niche for him in the music world - one filled with sounds, rhythms, themes, and moods.
