MJ Cyr

We all are familiar with the phrase; "All good things come in small packages".  Fans and supporters that have had the ultimate pleasure of listening to the acoustic, musical stylings of the multi-talented singer/songwriter/musician MJ Cyr can attest to this statement being absolutely true. MJ Cyr may be slight in size but the intensity and power of her voice can align the stars and bring forth the illumination of her music.

With the benefit of both her parents being professional musicians, MJ was exposed to live music at an early age. However, at first, MJ was completely shy of her abilities to sing in front of an audience; until her mother, also a former high school teacher at her school, encouraged her to join a vocal class. It was then, through the love of her family and the love of music that MJ discovered her passion and true sense of self. At the age of 14 MJ also decided to take up the guitar and later she went onto study with the Randolph Academy for the performing Arts, a specialized musical theatre college. It was there she was able to further develop her craft and set her self apart from fellow studying performers by experimenting with her own material.

In front of sold out crowds throughout the province of Ontario, MJ Cyr continues to astound people, pushing the boundaries of acoustic indie folk music. She draws people in with her emotionally driven, colourful and deep songs. Songs such as "Sorry" reveal her personal vulnerabilities, while other songs like “The Bottom Line” are refreshingly upbeat, lively and full of light summer-like spirit. She interlaces her music with depth and passion, and she also searches deep into her soul as well as the souls of others. This woven blend of pure, exciting and creative musical energy is much like a painter splashing soft strokes of colour from life's emotional palate which can be sometimes bleak and harsh.

Extending well beyond her solo work, MJ Cyr also fronts her band “The Hots", another creative outlet for MJ to explore and push her creative abilities. The band is comprised of four other talented musicians who unknowingly further help to showcase MJ's ability to truly hold and captivate a crowd.
