Hazel Aung
Written by Daniel Stad
Hazel was born in a country formally called Burma, which is now called Myanmar. At the age of 3 she moved to live in Brunei, then a few years in Singapore…finally at the age of 9 landed in Toronto and has resided here ever since. Growing up with only her parents and no other family around, Hazel was her own role model making a new life from scratch including the people she’s met on the journey she endured in becoming who she is today.
After watching America’s Next Top Model and seeing those billboards everywhere, Hazel just couldn’t resist the temptation of modeling anymore. When she turned 18 she purchased her first Cannon Power Shot, and since has spent many hours putting the camera on timer and rushing into the frame for a pose. Oddly enough, those homemade photos’s started to pay off and her dreams started to manifest into reality. Her first modeling dream come true was last September when “Unigirl” asked her to be in their “Swimwear Edition.” Ever since, the casting calls have been coming in one after another.
Its Hazels love for nature that draws out all of her outdoor nature shoots, she loves any style can go from tall grass in a field to a shoot on the wild side in the jungle. She says “Nature is the base of life, the beautiful essence of Mother Nature is a work of art therefore I love to model outdoors.”
Dsquare2 is Hazel’s most favourite designer in the world and absolutely loves their fashion. She’s also a big fan of Tyra banks, because she likes her TV show. Saying “She has such great tips for models she is very professional in the modeling industry.”
When we asked Hazel about her experiences with other models and if she ever gets bothered by them, she said “It never bothers me to see other good models because if they have what it takes to become successful, then they are well deserved! Now the real question lies, does it bother me to see impolite good models? Yes, some models can often get caught up with the
attention of their role that they are so flattered by, their personalities often lack in good manners or they treat other weaker/competitive models poorly, and that bothers me. However if that happens, I just keep my distance.”
Having experience in countries that are less fortunate than us has always kept Hazel’s eyes open. When asked about positive change in the world and what she would do to improve things, she said “If I can help provide shelter; better housing units in some of the villages and provide adequate food supply in third world country, I would take it into priority to change that. If I had won the lottery or even make enough money, I would like to donate to the cancer society. I would like to be a researcher to find for the cure. However if there’s no hope, cancer patients would get the best treatment and health institutions that I would help contribute to.”
Hazel believes it’s important to treat everyone equal, in her daily life she treats everyone equally no matter what. She always tries to be kind, respectful and friendly to everyone around her. Aside from modeling Hazel is also pursuing a career in healthcare, and in her spare time she plays guitar, writes songs, poems and quotes. She also enjoys singing, skateboarding, playing tennis and beach volleyball. She also loves reading philosophy and considers herself to be very philosophical.
